What does CASA do?

CASA is a company which develops Home Care Social Enterprises. As well as developing these companies, CASA offers a support service to the companies it has developed. CASA also offers a consultancy service to anyone looking for advice or support with regard to providing care services via a Social Enterprise or a set up which embraces democratic principles.

How much does it cost to set up a new company?

Although cost can vary due to local conditions and different situations, CASA can set up a sustainable employee owned Social Enterprise which will deliver vital care services to vulnerable people for a one-off investment of approximately £90,000

How long does it take for CASA to set up a new company?

As with cost, the length of time can vary due to various factors. These factors include the situation with the local Social Services, the amount of time it can take the Commission for Social Care Inspection to process the registration and the nature of the funding body and their systems and requirements. Without the above factors, CASA can set up a new company which can begin to provide care within three to four months

Where does the funding come from?

Funding can come from a variety of different sources. In North Tyneside, funding was secured through City Challenge. Newcastle Home Care Associates were funded by New Deal for Communities whilst in Manchester funding came from ERDF.

Funding has also been secured from North East Social Enterprise Partners via the Inspire programme and from Social Firms North East.

I’m a potential funder. Why should I put the community's money into this?

For a relatively modest amount, CASA can set up an economically self sustaining employee owned company which has the genuine potential to employ many local people (SHCA employs approximately 170 staff) and will provide a valuable service to many vulnerable people in the heart of the community for many years to come. It will also benefit the local economy as any economic activity generated by the company will remain within the local economy.
