CASA News : Calderdale HCA to be launched by Head of Department Of Health's Social Enterprise Unit

08 October 2009

CASA will officially launch its latest franchise unit in Halifax, on the 4th of November at 2pm. The launch is the culmination of over a year's development work by the CASA team to get the unit up and running. CASA are thrilled that the launch event's key-note speaker is Rebecca Chaloner, the Head of the Department of Health's Social Enterprise Unit.

The purpose of the launch is not only a celebration of Calderdale's entry to the CASA family. The launch will provide a platform for a debate on the increasing role for social enterprise in delivering a range of health and social care services.

The CASA team are also happy to have established a new CASA unit so close to the birth place of the Co-operative movement. The roots of the employee ownership were forged in the co-operative movement of the nineteenth century, 'pioneered' in Rochdale by a group of workers who collectively sought a better deal for the supply of unadulterated foods for themselves, and their fellow workers. These same principles of collective ownership and work translate to low levels of staff turnover and increased investment in staff development, thus improving the quality of care. At CASA, and within all of the CASA Units, everyday, people are put before private profit.
